Haiti Redux

The Haiti Redux was the Haiti Earthquake in 2010 and the reaction and response the United States did to help. The earthquake hit Haiti on January 12, 2010 at a 7.0 magnitude for 35 seconds (Grünewald). 105,000 homes, 50 hospitals, the President's Palace, Parliament, Law Courts, and administration buildings were all destroyed, with over 220,000 deaths. (Grünewald). The US responded in a positive manner by donating $100 million in humanitarian services and the USAID sent out search and rescue teams with equipment (Taft-Morales).

4:53 P.M: earthquake hit Haiti at a 7.0 magnitude 15 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince.
Two more magnitudes of 5.9 and 5.5 hit later in the day (Pallardy).
January 12, 2010
President Obama assembles agencies to create a response to disaster (Taft-Morales).
January 13, 2010
US Ambassador declared Haiti a "disaster area" and $50,000 was given by the USAID through the OFDA to implant an emergency response program; the US Embassy located in Haiti evacuated all US citizens (Taft-Morales).
January 14, 2010
$100 million was given to Haiti as relief effort from President Obama (Taft-Morales).
January 20, 2010
A 5.9 magnitude hit struck 35 miles out of Port-au-Prince in Petit Goâve (Pallardy).
